Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 20-bed Neuro Med/Surg unit with a 6:1 patient ratio
• Prioritize and manage care for medical-surgical and neurological patients, including ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Perform IV starts, basic wound care, and maintenance of surgical drains, nasogastric tubes, and chest tubes
• Utilize unit equipment including IV pumps, telemetry, continuous pulse ox machines, feeding pumps, PCA, EKG machines, bladder scanner, and iMobile communication technology
• Document patient care accurately using the Meditech electronic documentation system
• Deliver attentive, compassionate, patient- and family-centered care including bedside shift report and involvement of patients and families in the plan of care

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license
• BLS certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience
• Proficiency with IV insertion, basic wound care, and management of surgical drains, nasogastric tubes, and chest tubes
• Ability to float per unit policy; contract/travel staff are first to float and rotate when multiple contract staff are scheduled

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in a neuro or neuro med/surg care setting
• Familiarity with Meditech electronic health records
• Experience working in a facility with Stroke, Trauma, or Chest Pain Center certifications
