Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements
- At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse license or Illinois RN license application in progress
- Current Basic Life Support certification
- Ability to provide safe, compassionate nursing care for adult patients with complex medical conditions
- Experience with telemetry monitoring, oxygen therapy, and heparin titration
- Willingness to float to comparable medical-surgical units as needed; no ICU or chemotherapy assignments required
- Strong communication, organization, clinical judgment, and teamwork skills
Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients with conditions including gastrointestinal bleeding, sepsis, cellulitis, congestive heart failure, osteomyelitis, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and comfort-care needs
- Assess patients, develop and implement individualized nursing care plans, and evaluate responses to treatment
- Administer medications and safely titrate heparin according to established protocols
- Monitor telemetry patients remotely and recognize changes in patient condition
- Manage oxygen therapy, including nasal cannula up to 6 liters and stable CPAP or BiPAP as ordered
- Perform or attempt peripheral IV starts and collaborate with available unit resources when additional support is needed
- Coordinate care with providers, patient care technicians, respiratory therapy, phlebotomy, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Document patient care accurately in Epic and provide thorough shift-to-shift handoff communication
- Participate in an approximately two-shift unit orientation and contribute to a positive, patient-focused care environment
