  • Orientation: 3 days with a preceptor
  • Weekend/Holiday Rotation: Every other weekend and every other holiday

Job Requirements

  • Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
  • Current BLS certification
  • General medical-surgical background required; nephrology, urology, or dialysis experience is preferred
  • Strong general medical-surgical background; nephrology, urology, or dialysis experience is preferred
  • Excellent teamwork, dependability, and a positive patient-first attitude
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts and participate in a rotating weekend and holiday schedule
  • Comfortable floating to other general medical units as needed

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to adult medical-surgical and nephrology patients
  • Monitor and care for patients with ESRD, AKI, dialysis needs, transplant care, urologic conditions, and general medicine overflow
  • Complete bedside report and maintain 1-2 hour rounding practices as required on the unit
  • Administer medications, assess patient status, and respond promptly to changes in condition
  • Collaborate with charge nurses, house supervisors, patient care technicians, and interdisciplinary care team members
  • Support safe, efficient care for a patient ratio of approximately 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
  • Document accurately in EPIC and follow unit policies, safety standards, and infection control practices
  • Float to other general medical areas or provide support as needed based on census and staffing
