  • Patient Population: Adult acute-care telemetry and cardio-thoracic patients
  • Charting: EPIC
  • Floating: May float to other general medical units

Telemetry Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
  • At least 1 year of recent registered nursing experience in telemetry, cardiac, cardio-thoracic, or acute-care settings
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification is recommended
  • Strong EKG interpretation and cardiac rhythm-monitoring skills
  • Ability to titrate medications, including Cardizem and heparin, according to facility protocols
  • Ability to provide care for patients with myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, COPD, pacemakers or AICDs, chest tubes, and post-operative thoracic conditions
  • Commitment to maintaining a drug-free workplace standard

Telemetry Nursing Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult telemetry and cardio-thoracic patients during 12-hour night shifts
  • Assess patients, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate clinical outcomes
  • Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and accurately interpret telemetry strips using Philips monitoring equipment
  • Safely administer and titrate medications, including Cardizem and heparin, as ordered
  • Care for patients with cardiac, pulmonary, medical, and post-operative diagnoses, including patients with chest tubes
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to providers and the interdisciplinary care team
  • Collaborate with patient care technicians, monitor technicians, respiratory therapists, providers, and other nurses to support safe, coordinated patient care
  • Document assessments, interventions, medication administration, and patient responses accurately in EPIC
  • Follow unit, hospital, and regulatory standards for infection prevention, patient safety, and professional nursing practice
