Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Neuro RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring dedicated neuro unit and Level 1 trauma experience.

Details

• Acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit with 54 beds (2 semi-private)
• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience diagnoses, with some medical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• RNs required to titrate drips, including heparin gtt based on PTT
• Nurse aides/patient care techs support the unit at ratios of 1:9-10 days/evenings and 1:10-12 nights
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7, with charge nurse not typically taking an assignment
• House-wide telemetry monitoring using Philips monitors; RNs do not need to read their own strips
• High flow oxygen used occasionally for stable COVID patients
• EPIC EMR used
• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday, both shifts) and every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirement
• Floats within unit rotation; general unit travelers float to general unit floor and take a full team assignment

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit required
• Heparin drip titration experience required
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered

Additional Information

• Provide acute med-surg nursing care to neuroscience patients, including stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, and head injury cases
• 2-day unit orientation including computer training and unit-specific education with an educator, followed by 1 day with a preceptor
• No specific scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are permitted
• Local candidates accepted; reduced local rate applies for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• COVID vaccination not required for consideration
