Position Overview
The Neuro ICU RN will provide specialized care to critically ill neurological patients in a Level I Trauma Center. The average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 on both days and nights. Strong Neuro ICU experience is required.
Key Clinical Skills
- Neurological: CVA/acute stroke management, EVD, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgery care, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
- Respiratory: BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, ventilated patient care, HFNC, ABG interpretation, pulmonary edema/PE, respiratory failure, ETT/NT suctioning
- Cardiovascular: CVP monitoring, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, cardiac/vasoactive drip titration, FloTrac/Vigileo
- Renal: AKI, intake/output monitoring, urine output assessment, CVVHD/CRRT
- Lines & IV Therapy: Arterial lines, central lines, PICC management, IV insertion and maintenance, blood product administration
- Medications: Continuous IV sedation, neuromuscular blockade, emergency medications, procedural sedation, IV insulin protocols
- Other: TPN/lipids, high-output drains, massive transfusion protocols, isolation precautions/PPE
Required Certifications
- BLS – Required
- ACLS – Required
- NIHSS – Required
