Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a comprehensive stroke center, requiring 2+ years of dedicated neuro critical care experience and prior travel experience.

Details

  • Neuro Intensive Care Unit at a comprehensive stroke center
  • Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents and endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
  • Patient ratios of 2:1, with potential to flex to 3:1 during high census
  • Average daily census of 11-12 patients
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
  • Every other weekend required
  • No call requirement
  • Floating required within or near the facility
  • Uses EVDs, lumbar drains, hemovacs, and Camino ICP monitoring devices
  • Additional specialized equipment includes LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
  • Documentation systems include Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of dedicated Neuro ICU experience required (general ICU or float experience does not qualify)
  • Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Required charting system experience: Epic
  • Skills required: IV therapy, blood product administration, central line care/management, care of ventilated patients, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, EVD management, ICP monitoring, lumbar drain management, post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgery management, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury care
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with isolation precautions and PPE use required
  • Arterial line management experience preferred
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to a complex neurological and stroke patient population
  • Unit orientation consists of 24 hours over 2 days or 2 nights
  • Scrub colors required: navy blue and white
  • Must complete pre-start and annual online training modules (approximately 8-10 hours for this acute care role)
  • Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment; up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved thereafter (excluding holidays)
  • No additional RTO permitted after signing
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
  • Travel pairs are allowed if placed on different units and disclosed at submission
