Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring critical care skills such as ICP monitoring and ventilator management, plus at least one year of travel experience.

Details

  • 26-bed Neuro and Surgical ICU (NSICU) within a comprehensive stroke center
  • Cares for neuroscience intensive care patients including stroke, seizure, and TBI cases
  • Staffing ratios of 2:1, occasionally 3:1
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required to other ICUs and intermediate units
  • Uses EVD management, ventilator management, Zoll temperature management/Arctic Sun, and PCAs
  • Charts in Epic with Pyxis medication system and SBAR communication
  • Scheduling based on unit needs; no block scheduling

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license/certs OK for consideration
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience required
  • Experience with ICP monitoring, ventilator management, and telemetry required
  • Skilled in stroke management, seizure management, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience with arterial line management, central line care, and blood product administration preferred
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation monitoring preferred
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending OK at submission)

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex neurological and neurosurgical ICU patients
  • Manage invasive equipment and titrate high-risk medications as part of daily patient care
  • Orientation is approximately 24 hours, held weekly
  • Pre-start modules required (8-10 hours for acute care roles), completed online and annually
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Scrubs not provided; navy blue, white, or a combination of both required
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO during first week of assignment
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
