Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Neuro ICU RN with critical care and ICP monitoring experience for a night shift position requiring a NC or compact license.

Details

  • Work in a 26-bed Neuroscience and Surgical ICU (NSICU) within a comprehensive stroke center
  • Care for a variety of neurological patient diagnoses
  • Staffing ratios of 2:1, occasionally 3:1
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (18:45-7:15)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required to other ICUs and intermediate units
  • Uses EVD management, ventilator management, Zoll temperature management/Arctic Sun, and PCAs
  • Charts using Epic, with Pyxis for medication and SBAR for communication

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license (pending accepted at submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of travel experience required
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Experience with ICP monitoring, ventilator management, and telemetry required
  • Skilled in stroke/CVA management, seizure management, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience with invasive equipment and critical care patient management required
  • Experience with hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, lumbar drains, and post neurosurgery management preferred
  • Experience with central line care, arterial line management, and blood product administration
  • Experience interpreting ABGs and managing dysrhythmias
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years (pending references accepted at submission, required at start)

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex neurological and neurosurgical ICU patients
  • Orientation is 24 hours, scheduled weekly
  • Must complete approximately 8-10 hours of pre-start and annual training modules, completed online
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Scrubs are not provided; navy blue, white, or a combination of both is required
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
  • Travel pairs are allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
