Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring 2 years of strong neuro critical care experience and prior travel experience.

Details

  • Work in the Neuro ICU of a comprehensive stroke center
  • Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 2:1, with flexibility up to 3:1 during high census periods
  • Average daily census of 11-12 patients
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
  • 36 hours per week can be offered
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • Floating required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun equipment
  • Unit systems include Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact)
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required in Neuro ICU specifically (general ICU or floating experience does not qualify)
  • Strong Neuro Critical Care background required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
  • Epic charting system experience required

  • Arterial line management experience preferred
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to a high-acuity neuro ICU population within a comprehensive stroke center
  • 13-week assignment length, with unit accepting placements up to the end of February
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours, consisting of 2 day or 2 night shifts
  • Scrub color requirement: navy blue and white
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment; all RTO must be pre-approved and no additional RTO can be requested after signing
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a lower rate
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm, PRN, or EP) must wait 12 months before applying and must disclose hospital name and dates of employment
  • Current travel or per diem clinicians with the facility must choose between travel or per diem status and cannot hold both
  • Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
