  • Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts, days 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. and nights 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
  • Rotation: Schedule typically rotates every four weeks between days and nights
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:1–2, with ratios of up to 1:2
  • Assignment Type: Travel nursing

MICU Travel Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Ohio; a valid compact or Ohio license must be in hand at submission
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Medical ICU or MICU experience
  • Current AHA BLS/BCLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • EPIC charting experience is required
  • Proficiency with IV starts, telemetry, ventilator management, and care of ventilated patients
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure
  • Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
  • Ability to float to other units within the healthcare organization as needed
  • Two professional references, including at least one manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
  • Ability to complete required credentialing and Ohio fingerprinting promptly after accepting the assignment

Critical Care Nursing Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill adult patients in a fast-paced MICU
  • Care for patients experiencing multisystem organ failure, respiratory failure, sepsis, post-cardiac arrest conditions, diabetic ketoacidosis, liver failure, renal failure, and other complex diagnoses
  • Assess patient status, identify changes in condition, and implement timely interventions
  • Manage ventilated patients and provide continuous monitoring of respiratory and hemodynamic status
  • Administer and titrate medications, including continuous IV sedation, according to orders and clinical protocols
  • Interpret telemetry and recognize, manage, and report dysrhythmias
  • Utilize EPIC to accurately document assessments, interventions, outcomes, and care plans
  • Operate and monitor NxStage CRRT, Alaris IV pumps, GE cardiac monitors, GE ventilators, and other specialized equipment
  • Support continuous glucose monitoring and the use of externalized IV pumps for appropriate patients
  • Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rapid response teams, IV teams, rehabilitation services, radiology, social services, and other interdisciplinary partners
  • Promote patient safety, infection prevention, dignity, and family-centered communication
