Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring an active NY license and prior charge nurse experience.

Details

• 13-week assignment in the MS/Tele unit of a tertiary care hospital
• Complex care unit treating medicine, ortho overflow, and complex long-term patients
• Alternating day (7a-7p) and night (7p-7a) 4x12 hour shifts
• Patient ratio of 1:5 to 1:7 for Med/Surg
• Every other weekend (EOW) required
• Floating required
• Charting performed in Epic

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required in hand, no exceptions
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Prior 1:6 patient ratio experience required
• Proficiency in Epic required
• Skilled in telemetry monitoring, rapid response/code team coordination, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with pacemakers (temporary and permanent), central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral IV care
• Experience with blood product administration, phlebotomy, and IV starts
• Skilled in feeding tube care, wound care/wound vac, and tracheostomy management
• Experience with ortho trauma and total joint replacement patients
• Skilled in surgical drain management and isolation precautions
• Experience with high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
• Experience with heparin protocols required

Additional Information

• Provide complex medical-surgical and telemetry nursing care including cardiac monitoring and emergency response
• Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (titration not required) and PCA and thrombolytic agents
• Scrub requirements: navy on bottom, navy or white on top
• Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel rate
• Candidates with more than 10 days of requested time off will not be considered
• Previous staff must have a 6-month system-wide break in employment before returning
