Travel RN Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,250–$2,370
- Position: Med/Surg Tele Registered Nurse (RN)
- Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
- Start Date: November 30, 2026
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks, ending March 1, 2027
- Location: Madison, Wisconsin
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; three 12-hour day shifts
- Shift Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Weekend/Holiday Coverage: Every third weekend and holidays as required; approximately two weekend shifts in six weeks
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
- Unit: 28-bed general surgery and postoperative unit
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients
- Orientation: 20 hours
- Float: Travel nurses may be required to float as needed
Med/Surg Tele RN Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of acute-care Med/Surg Tele nursing experience within the last 3 years
- Current Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin or a compact RN license
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- Recent experience with telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Experience using Epic electronic health records
- Strong clinical skills caring for postoperative and high-acuity surgical patients
- Successful completion of a telemetry examination before clearance to start; passing criteria include a score of at least 80%, accurate identification of lethal rhythms, and demonstrated knowledge of third-degree heart blocks
- Local applicants residing within 50 miles of the assignment location are not eligible
Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient- and family-centered care for patients recovering from complex abdominal, colorectal, surgical oncology, and emergency general surgery procedures
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, monitor vital signs and telemetry, and promptly recognize changes in patient condition
- Manage patients with NG tubes, feeding tubes, PICC lines, central lines, TPN, J-tubes, G-tubes, surgical drains, ileostomies, colostomies, PCAs, epidurals, and wound VACs
- Administer blood products, manage IV therapy and insulin protocols, and provide wound, ostomy, drain, and line care
- Initiate and maintain peripheral IVs, perform phlebotomy, and safely manage oxygen therapy and related equipment
- Educate patients and families regarding postoperative recovery, medications, wound care, and ostomy management
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, IV teams, and rapid response teams
- Use rapid response and code resources appropriately while maintaining accurate documentation in Epic
- Float to other areas as needed and contribute to a supportive, professional nursing environment
