Med/Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Chesapeake, VA
Join a high-volume post-surgical medical-surgical telemetry team as a travel Registered Nurse (RN) in Chesapeake, Virginia. This 13-week travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to care for adult and geriatric patients, including urology and gynecologic surgical populations, in a collaborative coastal Virginia community known for its scenic waterways, outdoor recreation, and convenient access to Virginia Beach and Norfolk.
Travel RN Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910-$2,010
- Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
- Healthcare Setting: Medical-surgical telemetry and post-surgical unit
- Start Date: October 19, 2026
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift Duration: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Shifts per Week: 3x12 or 4x12 schedule options
- Weekly Hours: Approximately 36 hours; overtime may be available after 48 hours on 4x12 schedules
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:7
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
- Holiday Coverage: Two of the three winter holidays may be required
- Orientation: Approximately 24 hours, including required pre-start modules
Med/Surg Telemetry RN Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent, relevant medical-surgical telemetry nursing experience
- Current Registered Nurse license in Virginia or a compact RN license in hand at the time of submission
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- Recent experience with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and post-surgical patient care
- Epic charting experience required
- Ability to care for adult and geriatric patients with a 1:7 assignment ratio
- Successful completion of the required telemetry assessment with a score of at least 80%
- Comfort with required floating, every-other-weekend coverage, and applicable holiday scheduling
- Applicants must reside at least 50 miles from the assignment location
Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients on a high-volume post-surgical unit
- Care for patients recovering from urology and gynecologic surgical procedures
- Monitor cardiac rhythms, recognize changes in patient condition, and respond appropriately to dysrhythmias
- Perform assessments, administer medications, manage IV therapies, and document care accurately in Epic
- Manage central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, feeding tubes, surgical drains, wound care, and continuous bladder irrigation
- Follow telemetry, heparin, IV insulin, isolation, oxygen, and blood product administration protocols as appropriate
- Collaborate with physicians, rapid response teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, physical therapy, and other interdisciplinary partners
- Support patient education, care coordination, discharge planning, and safe transitions of care
- Float as needed and participate in weekend and holiday coverage according to the assignment schedule
