Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift inpatient surgical unit position requiring 2 years of surgical unit experience and comfort with 1:6 patient ratios.

Details

• Inpatient surgical unit with combination acuity: adult medical surgical and surgical stepdown
• Wide range of patient diagnoses including cellulitis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, trauma cases (MVAs, gunshot wounds, stabbings, falls), cancers, kidney stones, bowel obstruction, and limb ischemia
• Involves surgical procedures such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation/closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, and amputations
• Uses equipment including wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tube/Corpak, JP drains, hemovac drains, and Penrose drains
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 1845-0715
• 36 or 48 hour weekly schedules accepted
• Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted
• Patient ratio of 1:6 on the surgical/medicine floor
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required as needed within or near the facility
• Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR communication

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of surgical unit experience required
• Must be comfortable with 1:6 patient ratios
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Skills in respiratory care, IV therapy, wound care/wound vac management, cardiac monitoring, and isolation precautions preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care across a combination acuity unit covering medical surgical and surgical stepdown patients
• Unit orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation plus 24 hours of floor training
• Scrub requirement: all navy, or navy bottoms with white top
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty incidents
• First-time travelers will be considered if experienced
• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility rehire approval required
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate schedules
