Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring 2 years of acute care experience and telemetry proficiency.

Details

• Med/Surg Telemetry unit caring for MedTele, post-cath, and cardiac drip patients
• Patient diagnoses include chest pain, CAD, DM, PVD, COPD exacerbation, COVID+, TIA, stroke, hypertension, Afib/Aflutter, bradycardia, tachycardia, wound infection, cellulitis, and GI bleed
• Involves pre/post angiogram and angioplasty care (no sheath pulls), PPM/AICD, LINQ recorder, and general surgical procedures such as EGD, colonoscopy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, wound debridement, chest tube and central line insertion, thoracentesis, and paracentesis
• Utilizes telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, and wound vacs
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (18:45-7:15)
• No call-in requirement
• Epic charting system preferred
• 13-week assignment

Requirements

• Active RN license (Louisiana or Compact) in hand upon submission
• BLS certification required; ACLS and NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
• Telemetry experience with ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips (titration preferred)
• Experience with insulin drip titration preferred
• Up-to-date NURSYS report required with profile

Additional Information

• Provide telemetry-based nursing care to cardiac and med/surg patients, including monitoring and dysrhythmia management
• May be assigned to an Emergency Team during declared emergency events, requiring on-site presence until relief arrives
• Willingness to work 2 of 4 designated holiday periods annually (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) required
• Orientation held five days per week
• Two Manager/Supervisor references required prior to start (Charge RNs not accepted)
• Must reside more than 65 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Previous Ochsner Health permanent or in-house agency staff must be separated for one full year before returning as a travel employee
