Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN with telemetry experience for a correctional care unit, requiring WI or compact RN license and 2 years of acute inpatient experience.

Details

• 18-bed Family Practice and 10-bed Forensic unit caring for complex acute and chronic illness patients
• Includes incarcerated patients from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, accompanied by DOC officers in a locked wing
• Adult med/surg patients with a variety of conditions under the Family Medicine service, including geriatric population
• Day/Night rotating 12-hour shifts (0700-1930 / 1900-0730)
• Every other weekend rotation required with holidays as needed
• Floating required as needed
• Uses Epic EMR system

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required (AHA only)
• Minimum 2 years of inpatient med/surg or telemetry RN experience within the last 3 years required
• Epic EMR experience required, within past 12 months preferred
• Experience starting and maintaining IVs required
• Must pass a telemetry exam with strict scoring criteria prior to starting
• Forensic or correctional patient care experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, central line and PICC line management, feeding tube care, and wound care preferred
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and management required

Additional Information

• Collaborate with correctional officers while providing care to incarcerated patients
• Specific training provided for caring for the forensic patient population
• May care for 0-10 DOC patients at any given time within a secured, double-door wing
• First-time travelers will be considered if they have five years of previous inpatient med/surg experience
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
• All references must be removed prior to consideration
