Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois, or confirmation that the licensing process has been initiated
• At least 1 year of recent ICU or critical-care nursing experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale certification
• Experience caring for patients with strokes, including patients receiving thrombolytic therapy, ventriculostomies, and post-craniectomy care
• Competency with ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, and titratable medication infusions
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythms using bedside monitoring systems
• Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and teamwork skills in a high-acuity environment
• Ability to meet required health screening and onboarding standards

Travel Neuro ICU RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill neurological patients in an 18-bed Neuro ICU
• Monitor and manage patients with acute strokes, ventriculostomies, post-craniectomy needs, and other complex neurological conditions
• Perform frequent neurological assessments and apply NIH Stroke Scale principles as appropriate
• Safely manage ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, and physician-ordered titratable infusions
• Assess, interpret, and respond to cardiac rhythms and changes in patient condition
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, support staff, and the broader care team to coordinate treatment
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic
• Provide patient and family education while supporting safe, compassionate, evidence-based care
• Float to intermediate-care or general inpatient units when needed and provide care appropriate to the assigned patient population
