Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Registered Nurse for a Medical ICU position requiring at least 1 year of recent ICU experience and a valid Michigan RN license.

Details

  • MICU setting with a mix of ICU and PCU patients
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:4 depending on acuity, with vent patients at 2:1 and cooling/CRRT/high acuity patients at 1:1
  • Patient diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, HF, and A-fib
  • Unit performs special procedures including CRRT, HD, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement
  • Utilizes specialized equipment including cooling machines, Bair Huggers, and massive transfusion protocols
  • Average of 3 ventilated patients per day
  • Every other weekend work requirement
  • Floating required to other ICU and Med-Surg units as census flexes, with travelers floating in rotation alongside staff RNs
  • Typical Med-Surg ratios during float assignments are approximately 1:5-7 patients per RN
  • Epic charting system experience preferred

Requirements

  • Active Michigan RN license required (pending licenses accepted with concrete ETA and proof of application)
  • Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS (NIHSS must be renewed annually)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent ICU experience required
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Previous charge experience preferred

  • Proof of flu vaccination required with consideration, with any exemption requests submitted within 48 hours of signing
  • Supervisor-level references required

Additional Information

  • Facility is a designated Primary Stroke Destination by the Joint Commission
  • ICU physicians may retain lower-acuity patients in the ICU rather than transferring, in which case these patients may be grouped with 3-4 patient assignments
  • Travelers float first when census requires
  • Holiday coverage is required
  • No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment, and all RTO must be submitted prior to offer
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Previous Bronson travelers may return after 6 months; previous permanent staff may return after 1 year
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
  • Annual self-reported training modules (8 hours, non-billable) completed during orientation and annually thereafter
