Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical ICU position requiring 2+ years of current critical care experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Medical ICU (MICU) at a cancer research hospital
  • Cares for adult and geriatric patients with oncologic emergencies, COPD, pneumonia, ARDS, GI bleeds, neuromuscular disease, drug overdose, oncologic treatment complications, pulmonary hypertension, autoimmune disorders, and sepsis
  • Manages hemodynamically compromised patients requiring mechanical ventilation, pulmonary artery catheter placement, CRRT, arterial pressure monitoring, cardiac monitoring, chest tubes, central venous catheters, chemotherapy administration, complex medication regimens, clinical trials, and plasmapheresis
  • Patients may also require bronchoscopy or endoscopy for underlying pulmonary and GI conditions
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:30)
  • May be scheduled for a rotating D/N contract with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
  • EPIC charting system required

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required at time of submission
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience in the MICU specialty, consistently worked within the last 12 months
  • Experience with IV therapy, arterial line management, central line and PICC line care, blood product administration, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Experience with ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and suctioning (ETT, NT)
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation monitoring, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience managing patients with acute/chronic renal failure and multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • Skilled in dysrhythmia interpretation and management, cardiac monitoring, and emergency response
  • Experience with IV insulin protocols and infection prevention/isolation precautions
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex MICU patients including oncologic, pulmonary, and multisystem organ dysfunction cases
  • No first-time travelers considered for this role
  • Former employees eligible for travel assignment only after 6+ months away from the facility
  • Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible for this traveler role
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to strict compliance timelines
