We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse for an Adult Medical-Surgical unit at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. The unit provides care for a diverse patient population, with a strong focus on stroke patients, post-operative patients, and individuals with complex medical conditions.
The ideal candidate will have strong assessment and critical-thinking skills, experience managing medically complex patients, and the ability to recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients, monitor vital signs and neurological status, and identify changes requiring intervention.
- Provide nursing care to stroke patients and perform neurological assessments using NIHSS.
- Care for post-operative patients, including those with amputations, surgical drains, chest tubes and feeding tubes.
- Administer medications and manage IV therapy, including heparin infusions as appropriate.
- Perform wound care and support patients with acute kidney injury, dialysis-related needs and COPD exacerbations.
- Monitor patients experiencing altered mental status or alcohol withdrawal and provide appropriate interventions.
- Deliver compassionate care to comfort-care and hospice patients.
- Maintain patient safety, follow infection prevention protocols and document care accurately.
- Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and implement care plans.
- Respond to emergencies and escalate changes in patient condition promptly.
Required Qualifications
- Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
- Current ACLS certification.
- NIHSS certification, as specifically required for this position.
- Ability to work three 12-hour night shifts per week.
- Availability to work every other weekend and every other holiday.
- Competence in adult Medical-Surgical nursing and neurological assessment.
Travel Adult Med-Surg RN needed at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in Illinois, night shift, three 12-hour shifts weekly, 1:5–6 patient ratio, with Illinois RN license, BLS, ACLS and NIHSS required; every other weekend and holiday availability needed.
