Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN with 5 years of experience and Level I Trauma background for a Magnet-designated teaching hospital's trauma unit.

Details

  • Medical Surgical/Trauma unit within a Level I Trauma Center
  • Patient population includes geriatric trauma, abuse/violence victims, MVA/MVC, falls, and acute care surgery cases (appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, TBI)
  • Patients admitted from ED, OR, or ICU
  • Patient ratio of 1:4-6
  • Day shift, 4x12-hour schedule (07:00-19:30)
  • Can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • Special equipment includes lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • BSN, CPI, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications preferred
  • 5 years of RN experience required
  • Level I and Level II Trauma experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Skills required: blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, starting IVs, insulin administration, PCA management
  • Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, and ortho trauma required
  • Experience with peripheral nerve block catheters and total joint replacements required
  • Experience managing surgical drains and chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac) required
  • Respiratory care skills required: CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, oxygen administration
  • Isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac experience required
  • Epic charting experience required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to trauma and acute care surgery patients in a Level I Trauma Center
  • Facility is a Magnet-designated teaching hospital with 1,266 staffed beds
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment
  • Must reside outside a 75-mile radius to be eligible for the position
  • Local candidates within 75 miles are not accepted
  • Standard travelers may stay up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
  • Permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any facility within the system as a traveler
  • Facial hair must accommodate proper respirator fit testing or must be shaved
  • Travel experience required
