Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 1 year of recent experience and NM or compact RN license.

Details

  • Medical Surgical unit with 32 beds
  • Night shift, 4x12 hours (18:30-7:00)
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:6
  • Rapid response team activation as part of unit duties
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating to like units required, based on facility needs, with brief orientation provided
  • Weekend requirement of 6 weekend shifts within 6 weeks
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • 36 or 48 hour scheduling options, with anything over 48 hours considered overtime

Requirements

  • Active NM or compact RN license required, pending compact accepted if obtained prior to start
  • BLS certification required, CPI preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted with minimum 24 months of nursing experience
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and peripheral line care
  • Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), high flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Experience with colostomy/ileostomy care and feeding tube management
  • Experience managing CVA patients preferred
  • Skilled in administration of Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medications
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac
  • Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
  • Experience managing surgical drains

Additional Information

  • Provide direct medical-surgical nursing care within a 32-bed unit
  • Participate in rapid response team activations as needed
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • Former staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • No travel pairs or groups accepted
  • No more than 3 days of RTO will be auto-approved, and no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
  • Travelers must complete required lab work within 48 business hours of contract signing
  • Onsite orientation includes non-billable modules, averaging 4-6 hours for RNs
  • First-time travelers welcome to apply with minimum 24 months of nursing experience
