Job Summary:
Medical Surgical Floor registered nurse (RN) position available in an acute care setting located in the surrounding healthcare facility. This role involves providing post-operative care, trauma management, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, and patient education for a diverse patient population. The position requires critical thinking and teamwork skills to ensure high-quality patient care during night shifts.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Nights, 12 hours shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week, starting 10/12/2026 and ending 01/11/2027
- Required Qualifications: Valid active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated; minimum of 1 year of RN experience in a medical-surgical environment; Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with post-op surgical patients, trauma, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, TPN, and critical thinking skills
- Duties: Care for post-op surgical and trauma patients, perform dressing changes, wound care, IV medications, monitor drains, and central lines. RNs may troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, and high-flow devices; manage inhalers and initiate patient placement on CPAP. Telemetry monitoring is in use, but bedside RNs do not read strips.
- Additional Information: Local rate applies to clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles. The unit operates with 2 charge RNs per shift, house supervisor available 24/7, and nurse aides/patient care technicians assisting during shifts. Floating to similar experience units is first priority, with specific team assignments. Orientation includes two shifts with preceptor plus a 12-hour orientation shift for EPIC and professionalism training.
