Description

American Traveler is hiring a Medical Surgical RN for a night shift position requiring 2 years of experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work on a 32-bed medical/surgical innovation unit focused on new technology and nursing practice models
  • Patient ratio of 1:6
  • Uses Hercules beds and Meditech charting system, experience preferred
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Staff self-schedule in rotating weekly groups
  • Holiday rotation required, including one summer and one winter holiday
  • Floating required to cover staffing needs as needed

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license required
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience required
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, peripheral line care, oxygen administration, nasal cannula and oral suctioning, feeding tube care, heparin and insulin administration, PCA management, isolation precautions/PPE, telemetry monitoring, and use of rapid response/code teams
  • Preferred skills include central line blood draws, blood product administration, PICC line management, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), tracheostomy care, colostomy/ileostomy management, wound care/wound vac, IV insulin protocols, and pre/post hemodialysis and renal failure management
  • Fit testing required; must be clean-shaven or provide an approved provider exemption letter prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care on an innovative medical/surgical unit that adopts new technologies and nursing practice models
  • Complete drug screen at Employee Health on first day before starting first shift the following day
  • General RN orientation held every other Monday
  • Zero-tolerance policy for THC, including medical marijuana cards
  • RTO policy: one holiday in assignment must be worked, two holidays requires working one, three holidays requires working two
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted
  • Must not have worked as a permanent employee at the facility within the past 24 months
