Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN with 5 years of experience and Level I Trauma background to join a Magnet-designated teaching hospital's trauma unit.

Details

• Medical Surgical unit within a Magnet & Teaching Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
• Patients admitted from ED, OR, or ICU with diagnoses including geriatric trauma, abuse/violence victims, MVA/MVC, falls, and acute care surgery cases (appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, burns, TBI)
• Patient ratios of 1:4-6
• Day shift, 3x12-Hour schedule (07:00-19:30)
• Option to sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirement
• Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
• Uses Epic charting system
• Specialized equipment includes lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators

Requirements

• Active MO or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• 5 years of RN experience required
• Level I and Level II Trauma experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Travel nursing experience required
• Must pass Relias EKG exam for interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Skills required: blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, starting IVs, insulin and PCA administration, spinal cord injury and TBI care, ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements, surgical drains, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac management
• BSN, CPI, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide medical-surgical nursing care to trauma, acute care surgery, and geriatric trauma patients
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; local candidates not accepted
• RTO limited to a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
• Standard travelers may work up to an 18-month period before requiring a 3-month break in service
• Former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
• Fit testing required; facial hair must allow for proper mask fit or must be shaved
• First-time travelers may be considered
