Description

American Traveler is hiring a Medical Surgical RN for a hospital position requiring an active Ohio or compact RN license and at least 1 year of acute care experience.

Details

  • Work in the Medical Surgical unit of a hospital setting
  • Rotating 3x12-hour shifts covering day (7:00-19:00) and night (19:30-7:30) schedules
  • Schedule includes weekdays and some weekends
  • Uses EPIC EMR for charting
  • Float to lower acuity units as needed

Requirements

  • Active Ohio RN license or compact license required, in hand at time of consideration
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience with strong acute care background preferred
  • Current BLS certification required
  • IV certification required
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and multitasking skills required
  • Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
  • Cardiac monitoring experience including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Isolation precautions and PPE knowledge required
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, peripheral line care, and PICC line management experience
  • Experience with neurological/psychiatric patients and substance withdrawal cases
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

  • Start and manage IVs, administer medications safely, and monitor patient vital signs and responses
  • Educate patients on treatments and self-care
  • Collaborate with the care team on patient care plans
  • Follow hospital policies and maintain patient safety standards
  • Care for Med/Surg and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown patient populations
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same pay rate
  • Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler
  • Requested time off must be submitted with the contract and limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly after signing contract due to strict credentialing timelines
