Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical unit position on night shift, requiring 2+ years of experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Details

  • Work in the Medical Surgical unit of a hospital environment
  • Night shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:00
  • 13-week assignment length
  • Patient ratio of 1:6
  • Diverse patient population including sepsis, CIWA, confusion, AMS, COPD, post-op care, AKI, trauma, respiratory failure, bowel obstruction, pyelonephritis, cardiac conditions, diabetes, GI conditions, isolation, and SI with medical indications
  • Epic charting system used
  • Ability to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays

Requirements

  • Active RN license (State or Compact) required in hand at time of submittal
  • BLS certification required
  • 2 years of experience preferred
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Trauma Level II experience preferred
  • Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line and PICC line management, blood product administration required
  • Respiratory skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, high flow nasal cannula, and ABG interpretation required
  • Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac required
  • Knowledge of heparin, insulin, and PCA medication administration required
  • Experience with CVA, substance withdrawal, and traumatic brain injury care required

Additional Information

  • Apply the nursing process across patient age groups from infants to geriatrics
  • Document care thoroughly following regulatory and hospital requirements
  • Work in a fast-paced clinical environment requiring adaptability to evolving patient safety standards
  • Utilize rapid response and code teams for cardiac monitoring and emergency response
  • Must reside outside a 100-mile radius of the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • Former staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Travel pairs or groups are not accepted
  • No more than 3 days of RTO will be auto-approved, and no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
