• Typical Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5–6
• Floating: May float within comparable medical-surgical units as needed
• Charting: EPIC experience required
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
• Local Candidate Rule: Candidates must reside outside the 40-mile local radius

Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

• Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
• Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Associate degree or nursing certificate as required for the assignment
• Recent EPIC electronic health record (EHR) charting experience
• Strong general medical-surgical nursing skills, with the ability to care for medical and post-surgical patients
• Adaptable, dependable, resilient, and comfortable managing change in a busy clinical environment

Medical-Surgical Nursing Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to medical-surgical and extended-stay rehabilitation patients
• Complete patient assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes
• Administer medications and treatments safely while monitoring for changes in patient condition
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, nursing colleagues, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Accurately document nursing care and patient responses in EPIC
• Prioritize care for multiple patients while maintaining safety, compassion, and attention to detail
• Float to comparable units when needed and support team operations during changes in census or patient acuity
• Participate in the required every-other-weekend and every-other-holiday rotation
