Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg unit specializing in post-op GI and wound care, requiring 2+ years of specialty experience and prior travel contract experience.

Details

  • Work on a Medical Surgical unit specializing in post-op GI and wound care
  • Patient population includes pancreatitis, GI bleeds, bowel obstructions/perforations, wound and post-op infections, mass removal, esophageal perforation, GSW, MVC, and diverticulitis
  • Exposure to specialized procedures including pancreatectomy, esophagectomy, Whipple, splenectomy, adrenalectomy, cystectomy, colectomy, thyroidectomy, mastectomy, hepatic resection, Nissen, bariatric surgery, TURP, gastrectomy, parathyroidectomy, and exploratory laparotomy
  • Utilizes equipment such as PEG/PEJ tubes, PCA, JP and perianal drains, hemovac, wound vac, nephrostomy tubes, and ostomy care (ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy)
  • Epic charting system experience preferred
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15
  • No call-in requirement for this position

Requirements

  • Active RN license, Compact or LA license required in hand upon submission
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg and post-op experience required
  • Acute care experience required
  • Must have experience working full-time on a post-op unit
  • At least one completed travel contract required
  • Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, and peripheral line care/management required
  • Experience with colostomy/ileostomy management, feeding tube care, wound care/wound vac, and surgical drains required
  • Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), oral suctioning, and PCA/heparin administration required
  • Central line blood draw, port accessing/management, and blood product administration skills preferred
  • Telemetry/remote cardiac monitoring experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to post-surgical patients with complex GI and wound care needs, including drain and ostomy management
  • May be assigned to an emergency response team by the unit manager during facility emergency events, with an expectation to remain onsite or serve as part of a relief team
  • Orientation is held five days a week
  • Candidates must live more than 65 miles from the facility to be considered
  • Rate of time off (RTO) must be discussed during the interview process
  • Two manager or supervisor references (not charge RNs) will be required prior to starting the contract
  • Candidates must have a current NURSYS report within 4 weeks of consideration
  • Previous permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must have a full year of separation from the health system before returning as a travel professional
