Job Summary
Registered Nurse, Medical Surgical Neurology Floor Day shifts supporting patients in a specialized neuro-surgical unit. The role provides safe, evidence-based nursing care through assessment, care planning, patient education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and quality and safety practices. The position also supports patient throughput, therapeutic communication, care coordination, and professional nursing development.
Job Details
- Schedule: Day shifts, 8.5-hour shifts, 40 hours per week; every other weekend and holidays required.
- Required Qualifications: New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications; minimum of 2 years of direct neuro-surgery outpatient experience; minimum of 2 years of intensive care unit, medical-surgical, or neuro-surgical nursing experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. An Associate Degree in Nursing may be considered with relevant experience or active enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Experience with EPIC is highly preferred.
- Additional Information:
- Provides patient-centered care based on nursing theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved nursing standards.
- Assesses patient needs, applies critical thinking, and integrates clinical assessment and intervention skills.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care.
- Educates patients and caregivers regarding care plans, transitions of care, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and families through caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
- Promotes quality improvement, patient safety, evidence-based practice, and nursing research initiatives.
- Documents nursing care accurately and thoroughly in accordance with regulatory, legal, and professional standards.
- Performs charge nurse duties as assigned and supports resource coordination, patient throughput, and unit operations.
- Participates in shared decision-making, professional development, specialty practice councils, nursing committees, and unit initiatives.
