Job Summary:
Neuro Surgical Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) Days located at a healthcare organization. This role involves providing specialized nursing care to neuro and neuro-surgical patients, including those with cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs), elective back and neck surgeries, post-operative cranial procedures, and cerebral angiograms. The position offers an opportunity to work within a dedicated unit requiring strong assessment and critical thinking skills.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour days, from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Active compact nursing license, current AHA BLS certification, NIHSS certification, minimum of two years of neuro experience, at least one travel assignment, trauma level II experience, and recent EPIC charting experience (including checkoff).
  • Patient Population: Neuro and neuro-surgical patients including CVAs, elective back/neck surgeries, post-op cranial procedures, cerebral angiograms, general medical, and psychiatric patients.
  • Skillset: NIHSS and dysphagia screening, neuro assessments, basic teleinterpretation, strict intake/output, urinary catheterization, Foleys, initiation/titration of heparin infusions, blood and blood product administration, venipuncture, blood cultures, NG tubes, indwelling drain management, and stable medication infusions such as Protonix and Lasix.
  • Additional Information: Float within skillset required, including first to float within the same campus or potentially to a nearby campus with a two-hour notice; cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely. This role may involve precepting students and new hires, and may require precepting students and new hires. Scrub color is navy blue with no competing health system or agency logos. Unit consists of 37 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:5 to 1:7 depending on shift. No COVID-19 vaccine requirement currently, subject to change. Holiday rotation includes every other holiday, and travel hours are not guaranteed during orientation.
  • Shift Notes: 12-hour day shifts, with specific start and end times.
