Job Summary
Registered Nurse, Medical Surgical Float Position. This acute-care role provides comprehensive medical-surgical nursing care for patients with diverse medical, surgical, neurological, infectious, gastrointestinal, renal, and behavioral health conditions. The position supports multiple medical units, manages complex treatments and equipment, and participates in interdisciplinary patient care.
Job Details
- Schedule: 12-hour day shifts from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a minimum of 36 hours per week and three weekend shifts required every four weeks.
- Required Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 1.5 years in a Level I, Level II, or tertiary-care setting.
- At least 1 year of medical-surgical experience in a facility with 450 or more beds.
- Indiana or compact Registered Nurse license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Registered Nurse qualification.
- Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is not required.
- Additional Information:
- Provides general medical-surgical nursing care for patients with conditions including chronic illnesses, infections, gastrointestinal disorders, neurological conditions, behavioral health disorders, and post-procedural needs.
- Performs patient assessments, care planning, interdisciplinary communication, intravenous therapy, wound care, tube and drain management, and administration of heparin and insulin infusions.
- Utilizes intravenous pumps, wound vacuum systems, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, telemetry monitoring, blood glucose monitoring, and venous thromboembolism prevention devices.
- May float to other medical units based on operational needs.
- Patient assignments generally range from five to six patients.
- Completes supplemental staff orientation, nursing orientation, and related clinical documentation training.
