Description: This position supervises day-to-day operations in the Transfusion Services/Blood Bank. It requires flexibility in schedule; may need to arrive before 8 AM or stay after 5 PM and work some weekends as this is a 24/7 service. Extensive experience in regulatory blood bank compliance is necessary. Preferred qualifications include advanced specialty certification in blood banking. Experience with laboratory software systems is highly recommended. Professional social skills are required due to significant interaction with staff and other departments. This role involves providing day-to-day supervision of laboratory testing personnel. The supervisor must be accessible to address technical problems via on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation. Compliance with all policies, procedures, and standards established by regulatory agencies is essential. The supervisor will plan, organize, and coordinate the work activities of assigned sections. Accurate attendance records must be kept for all associates. Assistance in maintaining the laboratory budget is expected, including monthly analysis and reporting. Development, implementation, and maintenance of procedural manuals are required. Safety policies and procedures must be enforced. Researching, evaluating, and implementing new procedures and methodologies is part of this role. Quality control programs must be implemented and maintained. Monitoring test analyses and ensuring acceptable levels of analytic performance is required. The supervisor will oversee and review the work of technologists and technicians. All remedial actions must be taken whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications. Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment is expected. Routine administrative and technical reports must be prepared and submitted by due dates. Inventory management for necessary supplies and reagents is required. Training new technologists and technicians on procedures and policies is essential. Participation in performance improvement activities involving laboratory personnel is expected. Conducting in-service education for assigned sections is part of this role. Input on personnel-related matters is required. Competency assessments and maintaining documentation for technical personnel are part of the duties. Enforcement of personnel expectations within assigned sections is necessary. Participation in proficiency testing surveys and maintaining records is required. Attending meetings to discuss changes regarding policies, equipment, and procedures is needed. Knowledge of the Laboratory Information System is essential. Demonstrating competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities is expected. Processing patient specimens while ensuring compliance with guidelines is required. Documentation of critical laboratory values obtained is essential. All duties must protect patient confidentiality.
