Job Title: Medical Technician I Profession: Medical Technician Specialty: Microbiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Mids M-F Hours per Shift: 8 hours (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM or 5:00 PM - 2:30 AM) Experience: Must have experience in Gram stain and specimen plating License: Must meet eligibility requirements upon hire to sit for the MT exam within 12 months of hire. Certifications: Must obtain certification within one year of becoming exam eligible. Must-Have: Experience in Gram stain and specimen plating Description: Performs a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks in support of clinical activities. Investigates issues with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow. May participate on teams or undertake special projects or assignments. May teach Clinical Laboratory Science students and train new employees. Acts as a technical resource within the laboratory. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory. Conducts routine and less standardized test procedures, including special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests. Observes tests and reactions and provides accurate data. Prepares specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required. Reports results to healthcare providers. Consults with healthcare providers regarding test results. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy and timely correction of errors.
