Job Title: Medical Lab Technician Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Medical Lab Technician Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years preferred License: Relevant state license required Certifications: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP BOC or equivalent or relevant specialty lab certification Must-Have: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline Hematology and/or Chemistry experience preferred Chemistry experience required Description: This position is for a Medical Lab Technician. The shift will be nights from 9 PM to 7:30 AM, working 7 on and 7 off, with weekends and holidays required. This role does not require on-call duties. Every other weekend will be worked. Travelers will not float between service lines. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2 years of experience, but first-timers are accepted. The successful candidate will support high-quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory. Responsibilities include preparing specimens for testing, performing routine and specialized laboratory tests, and quality control. The technician will troubleshoot quality control errors and maintenance procedures. Candidates must recognize and evaluate computer data problems and troubleshoot laboratory instruments. Preventative maintenance of equipment is also a critical responsibility. Communication of technical information to medical staff and laypersons is expected. Candidates should assist in training laboratory personnel in routine procedures and engage in continuing education. Recognition of normal and abnormal values is important. All personnel may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season from June through November. Travelers should consider this before confirming any new or extended assignments.
