Job Title: Medical Lab Technician Profession: Laboratory Specialty: Medical Lab Technician Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 10 hours (21:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum of 2 years preferred; first-timers accepted License: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician required Certifications: ASCP BOC or equivalent certification preferred Must-Have: Experience in Chemistry is required Description: The position is for a Medical Lab Technician. Shifts are at night from 21:00 to 07:30. The schedule is 7 on and 7 off, including weekends and holidays. Weekend work is required, as the technician will work every other weekend. Travelers should be aware that there may be assignments to emergency response teams during hurricane season from June through November. Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline are encouraged to apply. Experience in Hematology and/or Chemistry is highly preferred. Travelers must be prepared for potential call-offs by the facility once every two weeks. Candidates need to complete all required labs within 72 hours of signing. It is essential to ensure that all compliance requirements are met prior to the anticipated start date. Laboratory technicians will perform routine and specialized laboratory tests. They will also conduct quality control, troubleshoot errors, and maintain laboratory instruments. Communication of technical information to both medical and laypersons is a key responsibility of this role. Participation in continuing education and assisting with the training of laboratory personnel will be expected. Laboratory technicians must recognize and evaluate normal and abnormal values. Modeling standards of behavior in daily interactions is essential.
