Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for a Medical-Surgical unit specializing in cardiac care. This role will require you to provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a fast-paced environment.

Unit Information

• Unit Name: 3West Cardiac
• Number of Beds: 30
• Patient Ratio: 6:1
• Staffing: Unit clerk, 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) for both day and night shifts, Nursing Supervisor, Hospitalists
• Equipment Used: Welch Allyn vitals neuron, Novameter glucose, GE Telemetry and Rover’s
• Documentation System: Meditech-HCA version
• Medication Dispensing: WOW for all nurses, PyxisES

Scheduling Requirements

The schedule includes an equivalent of every other weekend, with a total of 4 weekend shifts over a 4-week schedule. 

Floating Policy

RNs may be required to float to other Medical-Surgical areas, including general Medical-Surgical, Orthopedics, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Medical-Surgical Surgical with Oncology based on skill mix needs.

Patient Experience Requirements

• Conduct Bedside and Hourly Rounding with 5P’s checked.
• Effective communication of patient needs to PCTs at the start and during shifts.
• Utilize glass boards for department focus areas and a scrolling video kiosk for updates.

Certifications Required

• ACLS
• BLS
• NIH Stroke Certification

Skills and Qualifications

• ACLS and BLS certification required.
• Cardiac knowledge is preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of medications such as Heparin, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, and Amiodarone drips is necessary.
• Experience with chest tube management, wound vac management, and EKGs is a plus.

Dress Code

Registered Nurses are required to wear navy scrubs, while Patient Care Technicians wear ceil blue scrub sets. Additional solid-color t-shirts without graphics may be worn underneath.

Unit Guidelines/Policies

• Documentation of telemetry applications and acknowledgment of rhythm strips must be logged every shift.
• Adhere to the NO PASS ZONE policy for bed alarms, call lights, and IV alarms.
