RN – Medical Surgical / Med Surg Tele Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical / Med Surg Tele
Facility Type/Setting: Acute Care Hospital
Shift & Schedule: Day Shift | 4×12-hour shifts (4x1)
Weekly Hours: 48 hours
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Weekend Requirements: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday OR 3 weekend shifts with a fourth shift during the week, at RN discretion
Holiday Requirements: Must work 1–2 of the following 3 holidays unless the unit is closed: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's
Floating: Required across all campuses,
Tele Monitoring: Remote tele tech monitoring
Requirements:
- Active Iowa RN license or Compact/Multistate license at submission.
- Minimum 24 months of current Med Surg / Medical Surgical / Med Surg Tele experience.
- Epic experience required.
- Charge Nurse experience required.
- BLS certification (AHA or American Red Cross).
- First-time travelers accepted.
- Resume must demonstrate 24 months of current Med Surg experience.
- Discipline-specific Med Surg / Medical Surgical / Med Surg Tele skills checklist required.
- Driver's license copy required at submission.
- Professional reference or performance evaluation from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the last 24 months preferred.
- Preceptor experience preferred.
- Psych patient care experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care to medical-surgical and medical-surgical telemetry patients.
- Care for patients requiring a variety of medical-surgical treatments.
- Manage overflow patients following orthopedic surgeries, including hip and knee procedures.
- Provide nursing care to psychiatric patients when the unit receives overflow.
- Monitor patients receiving heparin drips.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care.
- Perform charge nurse responsibilities as required.
- Float between assigned hospital campuses based on staffing needs.
