Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring 2 years of experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Med/Surg Telemetry unit with a 1:6 patient ratio
  • Night shift, 4x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
  • 36 or 48 hour contracts accepted with lengths of 13-26 weeks
  • Every other weekend required with no on-call responsibilities
  • Float to other MS units and to the main campus (New Hanover Regional Medical Center), approximately 32 minutes away
  • Patient population includes diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, CHF, UTI, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, and various surgical recovery cases
  • Uses Pyxis and Epic for medication and documentation, with SBAR communication

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license (pending accepted at submission)
  • BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Skilled in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Experience with wound care/wound vac, IV therapy, central/peripheral line and PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Experience managing bowel obstruction, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tubes, and renal failure/hemodialysis patients
  • Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
  • Experience administering heparin, insulin, and PCA medications
  • Must be able to pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in a Med/Surg Telemetry setting, managing complex medical and post-surgical cases
  • Must be able to work holidays, including 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO per contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week or on holidays
  • No blocked scheduling requests accepted except for weekend blocks (Fri-Mon or Sat-Mon)
  • Unit orientation is approximately 24 hours, with weekly orientation sessions
  • Navy blue or white scrubs required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at a local rate within 50 miles of the facility
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
  • Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at submission
  • May be required to participate in Storm Team/Hurricane Team coverage and report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
