Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Telemetry unit requiring 5 years of RN experience, travel experience, and WV or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work on a 20-bed Telemetry unit with all private rooms
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 for telemetry patients
  • Acute care setting with variable patient census and diagnoses including post-catheterization, medical/surgical with telemetry needs, and respiratory difficulty
  • Uses EPIC EMR system
  • 12-hour night shifts from 7p-7:30a
  • Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for night shift)
  • Rotating holiday coverage required
  • Floating may occur to comparable or lower-level units such as telemetry or med/surg, and occasionally to help with boarded patients in the ED or ICU
  • No on-call requirements
  • Point of care testing performed using AccuChek glucometer with barcode scanning
  • Unit supported by 2 PCTs, a designated charge nurse, unit-based pharmacist, and 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage
  • Nurses place IVs and may manage titrating heparin for telemetry patients

Requirements

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA)
  • Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
  • At least 1 year of travel nursing experience required
  • Comfort with basic dysrhythmia recognition and telemetry strip interpretation
  • Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for telemetry and medical/surgical patients requiring cardiac monitoring
  • Orientation consists of required education modules, shadowing, and a second shift of orientation before working independently
  • May be asked to precept or serve as charge nurse based on comfort level, with prior discussion
  • Scrub color requirement is navy blue, self-provided
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to qualify for travel rate
  • Previous WVU Medicine employees or travelers must have a 2-year break before reapplying
  • Travelers are limited to one year of cumulative work within the WVU system before requiring a 2-year break
  • Self-scheduling is available for travelers
