Description

American Traveler is hiring a Neuro Telemetry RN for a Level 1 trauma hospital, requiring an active IL RN license and NIHSS certification.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a Level 1 trauma hospital's Neuro Telemetry unit (23 beds)
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 1:5-6
  • Treats a variety of neurological, medical, surgical, and cardiovascular conditions including CVA, TIA, syncope, encephalopathy, altered mental status, and brain mass
  • Also manages aspiration pneumonia, PEG tube complications, atherosclerosis, angina, chest pain, and cardiac diagnostic/intervention/surgical cases, with occasional Adult Medical Specialty Unit overflow
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-730a)
  • Self-scheduling available, with manager accommodation when possible
  • Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for nights)
  • Every other holiday required: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Float to any unit in the hospital except OB, OR, and ED
  • Charge nurse staffed each shift, typically free of patient assignment
  • Patient care techs on unit, typically covering 7-13 patients
  • No ventilator management; CPAP/BiPAP used at night, nasal cannula as needed
  • Phillips telemetry monitoring for all beds; house-wide monitor techs interpret strips, not required of RNs

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (AHA only)
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Neuro and telemetry nursing experience required
  • BSN not required
  • Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels as part of a Drug-Free Campus policy
  • Nursys license verification required for submission

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care to neurological, medical, surgical, and cardiovascular patients in a high-acuity telemetry setting
  • Collaborate with charge nurses, patient care techs, and monitor techs as part of a structured care team
  • 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Any color professional scrub permitted; closed-toe shoes required; no hoodies, artificial nails, or nail alterations
  • COVID vaccination not required for this facility
  • Local candidates welcome; local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
  • No radius restriction for general eligibility
