Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 32-bed surgical Med/Tele unit with an average census of 28 patients
  • Patient population includes total joint replacements, colon resections, cholecystectomies, appendectomies, amputations, hip fractures, small bowel obstructions (SBO), and medical overflow
  • Night shift schedule: 1845–0700, 36 hours per week
  • RN-to-patient ratios are 1:5–6 on nights, with potential surge ratios of up to 1:7–8
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
  • Floating required within Region 3 facilities (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates not willing to float should not apply
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Low census call is possible; night shift staff may be called back until 3:00 AM
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Schedule is posted in 6-week cycles

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, management of non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), wound care, drain and tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
  • Unit support includes CNAs (vitals, baths, mobility, blood sugars), HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, dedicated phlebotomy team, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), and telemetry monitoring technicians
  • Orientation includes NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up by extending the contract
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Free parking is available on site
  • The facility is a 241-bed, Level 3 Trauma Center and Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center — not a teaching hospital
