Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring prior charge experience and a TN or compact RN license.

Details

• Inpatient Med/Surg Tele unit specializing in stroke and TIA patients, along with higher acuity med-surg cases
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as stroke/TIA, seizure, syncope, pneumonia, chest pain, dialysis, acute kidney failure, post heart cath, respiratory failure, encephalopathy, CHF, and sepsis
• Unit performs peritoneal dialysis and continuous bladder irrigation
• Night shift staffing ratio of 1:6
• Uses Omnicell medication system
• Day shift schedule of 3x12 hours (6:45 AM-7:15 PM)
• Every other weekend coverage required
• Floating required to other units based on facility need and staff skill set

Requirements

• Active TN or compact RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience in a Med/Surg Tele unit required
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Minimum 1 year of EPIC EMR experience required
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, and PICC line management
• Respiratory care skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
• Experience managing colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tubes
• Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) experience
• Experience with CVA and substance withdrawal patient care
• Medication administration experience with Heparin, Insulin, and cardiac drips (no titration)
• Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and telemetry remote monitoring
• Experience with Rapid Response/Code team protocols
• Isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac experience
• Prior travel nursing experience required

Additional Information

• Unit has a strong focus on patient experience
• Floating required to other Prisma Health units and/or campuses based on census needs, with assignments limited to units where competencies have been demonstrated
• Orientation held every Monday with annual compliance training required
• Pre-assignment testing and modules must be completed within 48 hours of receiving login credentials
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Travelers must be more than 100 miles from every Prisma Health facility system-wide to be eligible, with a reduced rate applying between 90-99.9 miles
• Night shift travelers in this specialty must live 50+ miles from the contracted campus, with distances under 50 miles making candidates ineligible and 50-99.9 miles resulting in a reduced rate
• Travelers who do not convert to employee status after three consecutive 13-week contracts or 39 weeks must take a minimum six-month separation before returning as a traveler with the organization
