Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele unit requiring a NC or Compact license and prior travel nursing experience with direct Med/Surg background.

Details

  • MS/Tele unit in a hospital setting with a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU)
  • 42 daily census with 43 rooms/beds
  • Patient population primarily includes Stroke, Neurosurgery, and Neuro diagnoses such as Epilepsy, Traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas
  • Patient ratio of 1:6
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts (3x12), 18:45-7:15
  • Contracts accepted for 13-26 weeks with options for 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend work required
  • Floating required to other MS/Tele areas, which may include COVID care units
  • Uses PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR charting systems
  • Unit orientation is 36 hours

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending license accepted at submission
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience required
  • Must have completed at least 2 successful prior travel contracts (first-time travelers not accepted)
  • Required certifications: BLS, NIHSS
  • ACLS preferred but not required
  • Stepdown/PCU experience preferred
  • Skills required: IV Start and Telemetry, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, Med/Surg neuro experience
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending references accepted at submission)

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for Stroke, Neurosurgery, and other Neuro diagnoses including Epilepsy and subdural hematomas
  • EMU training is provided by the unit and typically does not affect travelers unless previously trained
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying and must disclose facility name and dates of employment for approval
  • RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday, additional RTO requires facility approval
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
  • Travel pairs are allowed if on different units with separate transportation and schedules
  • Frequent floating may be required based on unit needs
  • Missed weekend shifts due to call-offs may need to be made up based on unit needs
