Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for an oncology unit requiring 2+ years of acute care telemetry experience and an active Ohio or compact RN license.

Details

• Med/Surg Tele unit within a cancer hospital and research facility
• Cares for adult and geriatric patients with cancer diagnoses including endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers
• Unit specializes in chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and CBI treatments
• Night shift, 3x12-hour rotation from 19:00-7:30, though a 12D/N rotating contract may include a mix of day and night shifts based on department needs
• Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, with changes based on staffing priorities
• Staffing ratios target 1:4, but may be adjusted to 1:5 based on unit needs
• Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
• No set or blocked scheduling requests accommodated
• Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

• Active RN license (Ohio or compact) in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of acute care Med/Surg Tele experience, current within the last 12 months and in the specialty applied for
• Proficiency in telemetry monitoring, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with chemotherapy administration and oncology-specific procedures such as brachytherapy
• Skilled in IV therapy, blood product administration, central line maintenance, and feeding tube care
• Experience with PCA medications, surgical drains, and tracheostomy care/management preferred
• ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable for the second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to oncology patients, ensuring physical and emotional well-being
• Administer chemotherapy and monitor for adverse reactions
• Participate in clinical trials, assisting with data collection and documentation
• Perform specialized procedures such as brachytherapy and neobladder care
• Implement infection prevention protocols and support fall prevention initiatives
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and utilize rapid response resources as needed
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract; those far from Ohio will be mailed a fingerprinting packet
• First-time travelers are welcome and encouraged to apply with a willingness to learn and grow
• Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6+ months away from the facility
• Current employees are ineligible for travel assignments at this health system
• RTO must be submitted with application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
