Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Details:

• 12-hour shifts available as either 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Schedule cycle runs every 6 weeks
• Weekend rotation required: 5-6 weekend shifts out of every 12 shifts
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday expectations: required to work one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
• RTO requests must go through manager for approval
• Patient ratios: RN 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, CNA up to 1:14
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Float pool capacity required - must be willing to float to all Med/Tele units in house as needed
• Required certifications: BLS required, ACLS preferred
• Will be required to pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding
• Certification in Med Surg is a plus
• Required skills include: trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander, strong assessment and time management skills, care coordination with interdisciplinary team, discharge planning knowledge, and patient education
• Telemetry skills required: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, post-cath care, TR bands, and post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls)
• Required drip management: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine; may titrate drips for HR but not for BP
• EMR system: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Monitors: Phillips
• Unit-specific equipment: VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips
• Scrub color: Navy blue for RNs

This facility is a 637-licensed-bed teaching hospital holding a Level 1 Trauma Designation and housing specialized centers including a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The facility operates busy, team-oriented Med Surg and Telemetry units with comprehensive support services available including CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, a PICC team, discharge nurses, a resource team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists all available 24/7. A central telemetry unit provides monitoring support across units.
