Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a 13-week day shift assignment requiring Epic experience and a VA or compact RN license.

Details

  • 17-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit with a 1:4 to 1:5 patient ratio
  • Receives patients from the Emergency Department, Medical ICU, clinics, outside hospitals, or nursing facilities
  • Cares for a wide range of diagnoses including diabetes, sickle cell crisis, COPD exacerbations, ESRD with pulmonary hypertension, and patients with wounds, drains, and tubes
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 to 19:00
  • Can offer 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend required, with 2 of 3 winter holidays required
  • Floating required within scope of practice per facility float policy

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start date)
  • BLS required, ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience
  • Epic charting experience required
  • BSN preferred
  • Charge nurse, teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
  • Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central/PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Respiratory skills including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tube, and high flow nasal cannula management preferred
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management preferred
  • Wound care/wound vac and isolation precaution/PPE knowledge required
  • Experience with pre/post hemodialysis and renal failure management
  • Pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury experience preferred
  • Peritoneal dialysis experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across a diverse Med/Surg Telemetry caseload
  • Complete specialty-specific orientation modules during onboarding
  • Time off requests around Christmas cannot be approved, and no additional RTO will be approved after offer acceptance beyond 40 hours
  • Previous UVA permanent staff or travelers must have a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning
  • External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this limit is reached
  • No radius rule applies for this unit
