Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Med-Surg/Tele unit that decompresses the ED and other specialty areas, spanning multiple satellite units (6CD, 3K, 5A, 3L, 1T)
  • Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, falls, MVC injuries, PE, DVT, UTI, pneumothorax, GI bleeds, and CVA
  • RN patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit, with surge staffing potentially increasing to 1:7-8
  • Telemetry monitoring is managed by unit nursing staff with no dedicated tele tech
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Weekend rotation is every other weekend with no on-call requirements
  • Floating required within assigned region and scope of practice, potentially to multiple facilities
  • Schedule cycle runs every 6 weeks

Requirements

  • Active RN license, NC or compact required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skills required include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, foley insertion/management, and PCA pump use
  • Medication drip management experience required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Work in a Level I Trauma, teaching hospital setting with designated Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center status
  • Department is supported by CNAs, unit secretary, charge nurse, phlebotomy and IV/VAT teams, resource nurses, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists, all available 24/7
  • Primary nurse is responsible for telemetry interpretation each shift
  • Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage requires working 75% of designated holidays
  • RTO allows up to 6 approved days off, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
  • Navy blue scrubs required

  • Unit culture is described as close-knit and family-oriented
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
  • Radius rule requires a permanent address at least 50 miles from the home unit; local candidates not accepted
