Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and NC/compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Med-Surg/Tele ADTU and Satellite unit consisting of 5 units focused on decompressing the ED and other specialty areas
  • Units include 6CD ADTU (19 beds), 3K (8 beds), 5A (12 beds), 3L (7 beds), and 1T (7 beds)
  • Adult/geriatric patient population with common diagnoses including COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, falls with injuries, MVC with injuries, PE, DVT, UTI, pneumothorax, GI bleeds, and CVA
  • RN ratios range from 1:4 on satellite units to 1:5-6 (up to 1:7-8 during surge) on 6CD ADTU
  • 12-hour night shift, 1900-0700, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within designated region and scope of practice, including to other facilities within that region
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
  • Telemetry monitoring performed by nursing staff on each unit with no dedicated tele tech

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • General Med/Tele skillset required, including stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
  • Experience with medication drip management including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Work alongside CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, phlebotomy/IV teams, resource nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists for full support
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays, with any shortfall added to the end of the contract
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Free parking available
  • Unit culture is described as close-knit and family-oriented
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Returning employees must be separated from any facility within the health system for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
